“Fake Elvis” Campaign Recognized for “Attention Grabbing” Dramatization of Email Impersonation
SAN FRANCISCO – May 3, 2019 – Valimail, the world’s leading provider of anti-phishing technologies to stop fake email and restore trust to communications, has been named the winner of a silver Stevie® Award in the Marketing Campaign of the Year – Internet/Telecom category in The 17th Annual American Business Awards®.
The American Business Awards are the U.S.A.’s premier business awards program. All organizations operating in the U.S.A. are eligible to submit nominations – public and private, for-profit and non-profit, large and small.
Valimail’s entry, “Dramatizing Email Impersonation … With Elvis Impersonators,” described Valimail’s “Elvis”-themed marketing campaign, which generated awareness and urgency for the ongoing problem of email impersonation (fake emails). This multichannel campaign included hiring multiple Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe impersonators to drive attention and social media engagement during three key security conferences in 2018: RSA in May, Gartner’s Security and Risk Management Summit in June, and Black Hat in August. These impersonators were supported by thematic display advertising at all three conferences, billboards, a sustained online advertising campaign, social media promotions, a “Take a Selfie with Elvis” contest, and a custom, one-page website purpose-built for the campaign.
Judges’ comments on the nomination included: “The approach is attention grabbing,” “This is a fun approach and a well-rounded conference strategy,” “Elvis & Marilyn impersonators get it done!,” “Creative and relevant idea that illustrates the problem and creates attention,” and “I thought this campaign stood out from the crowd. It seems risky, but the impersonators were very relevant to the brand and products.”
Nicknamed the Stevies for the Greek word meaning “crowned,” the awards will be presented to winners at a gala ceremony at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York on Tuesday, June 11. Tickets are now on sale. More than 3,800 nominations from organizations of all sizes and in virtually every industry were submitted this year for consideration in a wide range of categories. More than 200 professionals worldwide participated in the judging process to select this year’s Stevie Award winners.
